Pressure-treated C16 timber joists (or aluminium) are installed at 400mm centres on adjustable feet or direct posts.
Composite boards are fixed with hidden clip systems for a clean, screw-free surface. Ends are capped with matching fascia boards.
Balustrades, steps, lighting channels and post caps are fitted. Site is fully cleaned before handover.

Traditional timber decking looks beautiful — for about two years. After that, the British climate takes over: green algae, grey weathering, warping, splinters and the annual ritual of sanding and re-oiling. Composite decking is engineered specifically to resist all of this, making it the smarter long-term choice for Leicester gardens.
Made from a blend of wood fibre and recycled plastic, composite boards hold their colour and structure through freeze-thaw cycles, summer heat, and the persistent moisture of a Midlands winter. Most premium composite ranges carry a 25-year structural warranty — something no timber board can match.
We install composite decking from trusted brands including Trex, Millboard, and Cladco. We'll help you choose the right range for your budget, garden style and usage — whether you want a natural wood effect for a traditional Leicester garden or a sleek contemporary finish.
Premium Landscapes installs composite decking across Leicester and the wider Leicestershire area — from Oadby and Wigston to Narborough, Birstall, Hinckley and Loughborough. We supply and fit leading composite brands including Trex, Millboard and Cladco, all installed on a properly engineered subframe with hidden fixing systems and a 25-year structural warranty as standard.
We build a galvanised steel or pressure-treated timber sub-frame at the correct height with a slight drainage gradient. The frame is the foundation — we never cut corners here.
Composite boards are fixed with hidden clip systems for a clean, screw-free surface. We leave the manufacturer-specified expansion gaps to accommodate summer heat.
Perimeter boards and fascia strips are fitted for a clean, finished edge. Steps and balustrades are built to your specification.
We inspect the whole surface for level and secure fixing, then clean the deck down. Composite decking is ready to use immediately after installation.
The upfront cost difference is real, but factor in 20+ years of annual oiling, sanding and potential board replacement and composite is significantly cheaper over a deck's lifetime.
Joists spaced too far apart cause boards to flex and feel bouncy underfoot. We follow manufacturer guidelines precisely — typically 400mm centres for composite boards.
Decking built flush to the ground with no airflow underneath rots from the bottom up. We always maintain a 150mm+ clearance and ensure water can escape.
Boards should always run away from the house so water drains off the leading edge, not towards the wall. An obvious mistake that's costly to correct once the frame is built.
Most domestic decking falls within Permitted Development rights and does not require planning permission. However, raised decking over 300mm above ground level, or decking in a conservation area, may require an application. The key rules under the General Permitted Development Order (GPDO) Class E are that decking must not cover more than 50% of the curtilage (garden area excluding the house), must not be to the front of the house and must not exceed 300mm above the existing ground level without consent.
If your project is in a Leicestershire conservation area (such as parts of Oadby, Stoneygate or the Market Harborough edge), we recommend checking with Blaby, Oadby & Wigston, or Leicester City Council before proceeding. We can advise during the survey.
| Factor | Treated Timber Subframe | Aluminium Subframe |
|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 15–20 years with correct treatment | 30–40+ years, corrosion-resistant |
| Cost | Lower upfront | Higher upfront |
| Moisture resistance | Requires pressure-treated timber, still susceptible over time | Fully moisture and rot proof |
| Warranty compatibility | Acceptable for most board warranties | Recommended by premium board manufacturers |
We recommend aluminium subframes for ground-level decking where ventilation is restricted, and for any decking over water features or on roof terraces.
Combining composite decking with integrated LED lighting is one of the most popular upgrades we carry out in Leicester. Decking lights can be recessed into the board fascia, fitted into the subframe riser boards or installed as post cap lights — all running from a low-voltage (12V or 24V) transformer that's safe to install near water features and in wet conditions.
Step lights and fascia lights are the most practical option: they mark the edge of the deck at night without creating glare and require no additional cabling run across the surface. We plan and install all garden lighting as part of the decking project so the cable is concealed within the subframe before the boards go down. See our garden lighting service for more detail.
Slip resistance is a practical concern for UK gardens, where rain, fallen leaves and algae growth all reduce grip on outdoor surfaces. All composite decking boards we supply have an embossed or brushed surface texture that maintains grip when wet. Full-cap composite boards with a co-extruded polymer surface are particularly resistant to algae because moisture cannot penetrate the outer layer.
For additional peace of mind around pools, hot tubs or steps, we can specify boards with a higher R-value slip rating and install non-slip nosing strips on step edges. If you have a specific use-case concern, mention it during the quote and we'll specify accordingly.
Everything you need to know before getting started.
Yes, but the sub-frame needs to be significantly reinforced for the weight. We build hot tub-rated frames as a specific project type — always specify this at quote stage so we design accordingly.
