Larger patios cost less per m² because fixed costs (groundworks, waste removal, labour setup) are spread over more area. Complex shapes with cuts add to labour cost.
Soft, waterlogged or previously landscaped ground requires more excavation. Hard ground or areas with tree roots add to groundworks cost.
Clay soil (common in Leicestershire) requires a deeper sub-base to prevent movement. Standard depth is 100–150mm MOT Type 1; clay sites may need 200mm+.
Removing an existing patio or concrete base adds £200–£800 to the cost depending on thickness and volume. This is included in our quotes as standard.
Adding drainage channels, soakaways or permeable jointing adds £150–£500 depending on complexity. Often worth it to prevent future water issues.
Steps, raised edges, built-in planters and lighting are priced separately. Steps typically add £300–£600 per flight depending on material and height.
