Why Artificial Grass Works So Well in Leicester

Leicestershire's wet winters and heavy clay soil create the perfect storm for natural lawn failure. Lawns that look great in June can become muddy, waterlogged paths by November — particularly in shaded or heavily used gardens. Artificial grass eliminates this completely.

For families with children or pets, the difference is transformational. No more muddy footprints through the house, no more bare patches where the kids play, and no more weekends spent mowing, scarifying and fertilising. Our artificial lawns are installed with a high-performance drainage layer that handles even the heaviest Leicester rainfall without pooling.

We've installed artificial lawns across Leicester — from compact terraced house gardens in Clarendon Park to large family gardens in Oadby and Wigston. Each installation is tailored to the specific drainage requirements and usage of your garden.

What to Expect on Artificial Grass Installation Day

1

Existing Turf Removal

We strip and remove all existing grass and topsoil — usually to around 75–100mm depth. All material is removed from site cleanly.

2

Sub-Base & Weed Membrane

A compacted crushed aggregate sub-base is laid and levelled, followed by a commercial-grade weed membrane. This is critical — cheap membrane is the number one cause of weeds pushing through after 2–3 years.

3

Grass Fitting & Seaming

Rolls of artificial grass are cut, fitted and seamed invisibly. We always run fibres in the same direction for a natural look, and use seaming tape and adhesive rated for outdoor UK conditions.

4

Infill & Brushing

Kiln-dried sand infill is brushed in to support the fibres and give a natural upright appearance. We power-brush the finished lawn for an immediate full appearance.

5

Edging & Handover

Edges are fixed with barge boards or pinned perimeter fixings and we walk you through simple annual maintenance — just a brush and occasional rinse.

Common Artificial Grass Mistakes to Avoid

Choosing the wrong pile height

8mm grass looks artificial and flat; grass over 40mm can mat and look unkempt. For most Leicester gardens, a 30–35mm pile with a natural thatch layer gives the most realistic result.

Skimping on the drainage layer

Without a proper permeable sub-base, water has nowhere to go. We've re-laid many lawns installed by others that turned into paddling pools after heavy rain.

Cheap UV stabilisation

Lower-cost artificial grass can fade, bleach or even melt in prolonged sun. All our grass is UV-stabilised and comes with a manufacturer warranty of 8+ years.

Ignoring the join direction

Seams visible in artificial grass are almost always caused by fibres running in different directions on adjoining rolls. We always ensure consistent fibre direction across the whole installation.
